The Layout takes shape

The Meifford Light Railway is a permanent layout and was always designed as such.

Somewhere to put it

The first first thing to do though, was to build a railway room within the top floor of our French house. I originally allocated more space for the layout and even conteplated running around all of the walls in the room, which would have given me about 20M run, but I wanted to ensure that I could finish it, so a more realistic approach was taken!

Putting it all together

These pages document the planning and then the building of the baseboard, through track-laying and on to the scenery and the construction of the various buildings that give it life. Locos and other rolling stock has been mostly built from kits, either resin or brass. Some of the techniques described may be pretty familiar to those who have done all this before, but just maybe in my experimentation there are some new tricks to learn.

So, what follows is what I did, or rather what I am still doing and probably will for some time yet!
