Loco No. 4 - Ogwen

Unusual name, but also an unusual loco, being vertical-boilered. Meifford purchased this one just after the line started, as a general workhorse and for shunting slate wagons down at the canal. It's also a great shunter, with really good slow running, although it isn't so good on heavy loads.

The rather tall chimney makes life interesting and it only just fits through the loco shed doors and it's certainly a close call under the bridge when negotiating the upper line at Meifford Hill!

Rumour has it that the original wooden engine shed had to be replaced with the current stone one because of this!

Reality

This is yet another Smallbrook body (the Etna kit) on a Hornby 0-4-0 chassis. It was an interesting and fun one to build and fitting a decoder was quite a challenge. Originally it had chopper couplings at one end and a Kadee at the other, but having decide on practicality it now has Kadees all round. 

A corrugated iron roof was fixed, in place of the kit version, along with a replacement chimney and various brass / copper pipework. Ogwen is due a spruce up and a bit of a rebuild - the driver may also be given a little more protection!
