Loco No. 5 - James

Currently the only diesel in the Meifford stable.

The company bought it to take the load off of the steam stock and was due to take on all the shunting duties as well as the late afternoon mixed goods. Sadly, we think the engine is underpowered for the job and has trouble just getting up the inclines with even two or three wagons!

Currently the company have plans to buy a bigger engine, or at least see if the current one can be 'beefed up' a bit!

Reality

This is a nice little Slimrails kit (white metal), which was designed to go over a 'spud' chassis.  The white metal body is quite a weight, which helps with traction, but means that the motor is working hard before any load is attached.

James went through the workshops; the 'spud' was definitely not up to the job and movement  ion track was either 'scalded cat' or too slow!

A LocosNStuff universal deisel kit which was obtained, built and fitted. The results have been slightly mixed, with more control over the running quality, but the body weight is still a problem, plus running in reverse it is quite noisy. Mind you the growl it produces is a bit deisel like, so not all bad!
